| How do I know when the user selects a menuitem? |

Since this isn't a predefined message in Visual Basic 1-4, you will have to use a VBX that can catch custom messages. I have the freeware VBX 'Message Blaster' in my download area, and this will fit your needs. Use it to catch the WM_MENUSELECT (&H11F) message.
